Some of you know this about me; some of you don’t. I have a history of struggling with alcohol abuse. I’m in recovery, and one of the things I’ve discovered in sobriety is the SMART Recovery program, which you can learn more about here. Basically, it’s a peer support system, similar to 12-step programs. It’s an international non-profit organization, run mostly by volunteers, and it can help people with basically any kind of addictive behavior.
Instead of “steps,” SMART has 4 points, which you can read about on the website, if it interests you. It’s also free, and meetings can be run by basically anyone who takes the online training course– and that’s where I come in.
I’m two weeks away from completing my training course to be a SMART Recovery meeting facilitator, which is great not only for me, but for the Charleston area, because South Carolina is not super-saturated with SMART meetings. I firmed up the arrangements today for the meeting location and start date, and I’m excited to get started and start spreading the word! Just need to finish my course.
Thanks to all my friends and family who have been a tremendous support to me throughout this process. I am living a very happy life today because of all of you.
